The swimmer wins in one discipline at five championships in a row
American Kathy Ledecky set a historic record for world championships in aquatics.
Yesterday at the world championship in Budapest, Ledecky won her fourth “gold” of the current championship at a distance of 800 meters freestyle.
Ledecky became the first athlete in the history of swimming to win gold in one discipline. five world championships in a row. Ledecky has previously completed the 800m freestyle at competitions in Barcelona (2013), Kazan (2015), Budapest (2017) and Gwangju (2019).
Katy also joined American Michael Phelps and Hungarian Katinka Hoss as the only three swimmers to win the same discipline at five different world championships.
In total, during her career, Ledecky won 22 medals at the world championships, of which 19 were gold. The American has also won seven gold medals in three Olympics.
The World Championship in Budapest will last until July 3. The Ukrainian national team has seven awards (one gold) and takes 10th place in the overall medal standings.
