Meilutite won her first World Championships gold since her comeback, becoming the best in the 50-meter breaststroke

Lithuanian swimmer Ruta Meilutite won the 50m breaststroke at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest. The result of the 2012 Olympic champion is 29.70 seconds.

The second was Italian Benedetta Pilato – 29.80, the third – Lara van Niekerk (29.90).

This is the first world championship gold medal for Meilutite after returning to the sport. Between August 2018 and March 2019, she failed three doping tests, and in May of the same year announced her retirement. The International Swimming Federation (FINA) decided to disqualify the athlete for two years. The period of ineligibility ended in mid-summer 2021. At the time of trial, the Lithuanian side reported that Meilutite had not notified anti-doping services of the decision to end her career, so she would have been removed from the control group. The Lithuanian swimmer returned to competition at the end of last year.

American Hunter Armstrong won the 50m backstroke with a score of 24.14. Xaveri Masyuk (Poland) took second place with 24.14, Italian Thomas Chekkon took third place with 24.51.

Over a distance of 1500 m freestyle with a European record and a competition record, the Italian won Gregorio Paltrinieri (14:32.80), in second place Bobby Fincke (USA) – 14:36.70, in third – German Florian Wellbrock (14:36.94).
