IOC confirms Isinbayeva remains on Athletes’ Commission

Double Olympic pole vault champion Elena Isinbayeva is still a member of the Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), this follows from a document published on the IOC website.

The IOC announced the composition of the commissions, adjusted in 2023. Isinbayeva is a member of the Athletes’ Commission, the head of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev is a member of the Olympism365 commission, which advises the executive committee, the session and the president of the IOC on strengthening the role of sport and Olympism in society as important factors in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Isinbayeva and Tarpishchev are currently IOC members. Isinbayeva was elected to the Athletes’ Commission in 2016.

Earlier, Isinbayeva said she would return to work at the IOC in September and also pointed out that she had never been in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, calling her major rank “nominal”. Sports Minister of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin called Isinbayeva’s attitude to her own military rank unacceptable. The Minister also pointed out that Elena does not represent Russia in the IOC, but rather the IOC in Russia.

Isinbaeva is a two-time Olympic pole vault champion, bronze medalist at the 2012 Olympics, multiple world champion, holder of 28 world records.
