Wilder’s coach: Don’t be surprised if we go out and knock out Andy Ruiz in January

Deontay continues to search for his next opponent

Malik Scotttrainer of the former WBC world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilderreported that the American team made an offer Andy Ruiz about holding the fight in January.

“Don’t be surprised if we go out and knock out Andy Ruiz in January and then we’ll see where we go after that. Ruiz is available, he has been available for four months, and we made him an offer. So we’ll see. Ruiz said he wanted to fight Deontay. But when you want to fight Wilder, you have to be willing to sign a contract,” Scott said.

“If you saw Deontay now, you would think he was fighting tomorrow. He’s in great shape. We always train and work on the base. If Wilder is at home, he trains in the gym. He’s always ready. At this point in his career, Deontay can’t fight everyone. He’s a boxing star and should be in big fights.”

In August, the WBC Board of Governors rescinded its order for a mandatory title eliminator between Wilder and Ruiz.

Wilder was also in talks to fight Anthony Joshua. According to the British promoter Eddie Hearn, if this fight takes place, it will not be earlier than March-April 2024.

Deontay last fought in October 2022, knocking out Robert Helenius in the first round. Ruiz defeated Luis Ortiz by unanimous decision in September 2022.
