The 11th World Games have begun in the USA. The opening ceremony took place in Birmingham, Alabama. This is the largest tournament in non-Olympic sports. Stanislav Goruna, the reigning champion of the karate tournament competition, became the standard-bearer of our team.
The organizers of the World Games ignored the war in Ukraine. Through competition, they plan to help rebuild Ukrainian sports facilities that were damaged during the invasion of Russian troops.
From each ticket purchased, 1 dollar will be transferred to a special fund. Our country is represented by 102 athletes in the tournament. On the first day of the competition Ukrainians will participate in three sports.
