Czech figure skater Georgi Reshenko told that he was happy with his performance at the European Championship, having only stepped on the ice in mid-November after a serious injury.
At the European Championships in Kaunas, Reshtenko took ninth place, scoring a total of 226.67 points for two single skating programs. At last year’s tournament in Espoo, the skater scored 54.52 for the short program and did not qualify for the free program.
— What are you satisfied or dissatisfied with in the short and free programs?
— In the short program, the objective was to access the free program, at least during the second warm-up. It was a shame for the quad at the start of the program, I lost a lot of points. But in the end, I was happy, because in the free program, I would have had more chances to progress, and that’s what happened.
As for the free skate, even during practice and during warm-up, the coach and I were calm, because they knew I would skate well. Of course, it’s a shame about the triple Lutz at the end. Lost 5-8 points for this element, in the end it could have been 93-95 points in technique.
But we are very happy with the end result. If you also take into account that I only went on the ice in mid-November after a serious injury and still made it into the top 10 in the first warm-up.
– What kind of injury?
— I ruptured the ligament in my right ankle. It doesn’t bother me anymore, I’m completely recovered and feeling good. After a long week, everything ended well. All I want now is to rest for two or three days.
— What was the reason for the fall of the triple Lutz at the end of the program? Was it a technical error?
“I just relaxed and the fatigue took its toll at the end of the program. I also hurried a little.
— Are there plans to modify the programs? Maybe you will include other quads?
— We will consider before the World Championships whether two quads are necessary in the short program. We do not know yet. Of course, it’s not worth taking risks in the short term. And it is planned to teach the quadruple lutz and, perhaps, include it only in the programs of the next season, ”Rechtenko told .
Reshtenko was born in Saint Petersburg, the skater has represented the Czech Republic in competitions since 2017.
The winner of the 2024 European Championship is French figure skater Adam Xiao Him Fa.
