Guardiola: I hope Haaland will be ready by the end of the month

The Norwegian’s return is being delayed, but De Bruyne is ready to play from the first minutes for the first time since injury

Head coach Manchester City Pep Guardiola outlined new terms for the striker’s expected return to the game Erling Haaland.

“Hopefully it will be ready by the end of this month. It was a little more than we expected at first.”

“It’s a bone. It takes time. With every injury, you can do whatever you want, but it’s a matter of time,” the coach emphasized.

The mentor also positively assessed the condition Kevin De Bruynewho missed half the season due to a serious injury and only recently returned to the field.

“Can De Bruyne start against Newcastle? Yes. From what I saw on Thursday, I’m pleased. He’s had some good minutes in training.”

“He is recovering now, he will have a few days off after this game and can train in Abu Dhabi to be fit for the next few months.”

Let us remind you that Haaland has been out of action since the beginning of December. The 23-year-old scorer missed the end of last year, as well as the beginning of the new one, due to injury. Guardiola previously said he expected the striker to return in January. At the beginning of this month, Holland was already training in the general group.

This season, the Norwegian played 22 matches for the Citizens in all competitions, scored 19 goals, and gave five assists.

The 32-year-old De Bruyne has currently played only 82 minutes in the 2023/24 season, with two assists.

Manchester City is in third place in the Premier League, five points behind Liverpool and with a game in hand. Today, January 13, Guardiola’s team will play away at Newcastle. Starts at 19:30 Kyiv time.
