Yagudin on whether to involve men in synchronized skating: “When a woman wants, she can do a little more good”

Olympic champion Alexey Yagudin said that spectator interest in synchronized skating is based on the predominance of women on the teams.

On Sunday, Yagudin, in a pair with Irina Slutskaya, became the host of the Mavis Cup tournament, in which 32 synchronized figure skating teams took part. The St. Petersburg team “Paradise”, three-time world champions, won.

— Is it worth involving the guys in synchronized skating? A complicated problem. It seems to me that the whole world rests on women. At least my family. Just recently, while raising a glass to my wonderful wife Tatiana Totmyanina, this thought occurred to me. There is a computer. Whether it’s expensive or modern doesn’t matter. But all this wealth will not work without a processor. In my family, the transformer is the woman. It’s the same in synchronized skating: when a woman wants, she can do a little more good than men. So, the girls synchronized swimmers, especially from our Paradise team, are ahead of the others.

Lately, working with a microphone in my hands has been much more enjoyable than with skates on my feet. Comfortable, calm, no injuries or competition. You can also chat and joke. So today I have the honor of being the host. In addition, synchronized skating is a direction that is close to my heart. It’s also ice, and I’m happy to announce the names of the stars. “I plan to gradually give priority to the position of presenter at events,” the correspondent of reports Yagudin’s words.
