Skier Artem Maltsev on , he spoke about the high level of spirit of the athletes of the Spartakiad of the Strongest, noting that he hopes to improve his results after third place in skiathlon.
Alexander Bolshunov won the skiathlon, Maltsev lost 3.9 seconds to him and became third, Ilya Semikov took second.
– Of course, I’m happy with how I feel. We spent 16 days in the mountains, the result is visible, it should get better and better with each race. I stayed a little behind when there was a start, it turned out that I lost my position a little, I didn’t sleep much. I didn’t have time to react when Ilya and Sanya arrived. We had to beat Denis (Spitsov) and Sergei (Ustyugov) at the finish, and it worked.
— Given your state of health, could you have extracted more?
— Yes, there are still races to come, my favorite time trial in speed skating, the relay race, 50 km. There are a lot of races, I will fight until the end.
— You arrived just before the race, were there any problems?
— There are always fears during mountain training, but with the coach we decided it this way. We have a good “connection” with him, everything went well. There are a lot of races – it’s wonderful, we miss sitting for 20 days without competition, it’s hard, we want to feel the stress before the race, we will fight.
— They said that the Spartakiad is one of the main starts of the season, that you will approach it differently. Do you feel in the peloton that the rest of the athletes approached it differently?
“The guys are all fighting hard, pushing each other, it’s a fight for life and death (laughs),” Maltsev said on .
On Monday there will be a 10 km time trial. Watch the live broadcast of the women’s time trial from 8:35 Moscow time, the men’s from 10:50 Moscow time on , Match! Arena” and “Match! Planet”, as well as on the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
