Ukrainian women’s saber fencing team won ahead of schedule team license for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Ukrainian women on Sunday won silver in the team competition at the World Cup in Athens. In the updated ranking, the blue-yellows rose to fourth place in the world. In case of the most unsuccessful performance at the final qualifying tournament in St. Nicholas, Belgium, Ukraine will go to the Olympics under the European quota.
Our country was represented in the capital of Greece by Olga Kharlan, Alina Komashchuk, Elena Kravatskaya and Yulia Bakastova. On the way to the final, Ukrainian saber fencers successively beat the teams of China (45:30), Hungary (45:31) and Bulgaria (45:34). In the decisive confrontation, the first seeded team of the tournament, the French team, turned out to be stronger (45:30).
Sabre fencers won the first Olympic license for Ukraine in team fencing competitions. Previously, Olga Kharlan received a personal quota by decision of the IOC.
