Among all awards – 16 gold
Team of Ukrainian veterans and military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukrainewho were seriously injured, won 27 medals in swimming at adaptive sports competitions United States Air Force Trials 2024.
The blue and yellow competed in the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke and breaststroke, as well as the relay. The Ukrainian team won 16 gold, eight silver and three bronze medals.
In all four individual disciplines, but in different categories, State Security serviceman Artem Kaidan and Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier Dmitry Tereshchenko became champions. Evgeniy Fedoseenko won three victories, Alexander Nedashkovsky won two, Artem Pogorely and Nazar Lozovoy won one gold each, who set a personal record in the 50 m breaststroke. Ivan Chalupa and Yuri Brel also climbed to the podium.
The competition ended with a relay race. The Ukrainian four (Alexander Nedashkovsky, Ivan Khalupa, Dmitry Tereshchenko and Artem Kaidan) snatched victory, beating the US Air Force team at the last stage.
On the first day of the competition, Ukraine won six medals in powerlifting. Later, the Ukrainians added awards in cycling and sitting volleyball.
The Ukrainian team consists of 30 athletes who will compete in nine adaptive sports: archery, athletics, cycling, powerlifting, indoor rowing, sitting volleyball, swimming, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.
The main goal of the competition is to attract veterans and military personnel to sports, and to popularize rehabilitation through sports events among veterans. Ukraine will take part in these competitions for the first time.
The United States Air Force Trials 2024 event takes place in Las Vegas from March 4 to 16.
