“There are more and more professional athletes” – Averbukh on the decline in the level of mass participation in figure skating

Choreographer Ilya Averbukh told that there are more and more professional figure skaters in Russia.

According to the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, 247 thousand people are officially involved in figure skating in the country, which is 375 thousand fewer than in 2022.

— In recent years, there has been a great resurgence of interest in figure skating. It started in 2014, from the perspective of the people involved there may have been some sort of change. There are more and more professional skaters. Grassroots sports and professional sports are different stories. Our professional level is high, new names appear, including in figure skating,” Averbukh told .
