Ivan Petkov will continue to coach the women’s team
Expert commission Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine officially approved the Argentinean Raul Lozano new head coach Ukrainian men’s volleyball team. Bulgarian specialist Ivan Petkov will continue to lead women’s national team.
The commission approved Petkov’s candidacy without discussion. Let us remind you that under his leadership the blue-yellows won the Golden Euroleague in 2023 and reached the 1/8 finals of the European Championship.
Lozano’s appointment took place after a lengthy discussion, including behind closed doors. After the presentation, the Argentine specialist noted that his goal would be for the Ukrainian national team to qualify for the Olympic Games.
The Executive Committee of the Volleyball Federation of Ukraine approved the candidacy of 67-year-old Lozano. The Argentinean will combine work in Ukraine and the Japanese club JT Thunders.
In his position, Lozano will replace Ugis Krastins, who has led the Ukrainian national team since 2017. Under his leadership, the men’s team won and took prizes in the Golden Euroleague and reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Championship. Ukrainians failed to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
In May, the Ukrainian national team will compete in the next Golden Euroleague. The blue-yellows will play their first match against Romania on May 18.
