Kovtun won two gold medals at the 2024 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Chepurny became third in the vault

Ilya defended his championship title on parallel bars with a personal best, and also took the first continental gold on high bar

Ukrainian Ilya Kovtun won two gold medals in one day European Artistic Gymnastics Championships 2024which takes place in Italian Rimini. The Ukrainian national team also won bronze Nazar Chepurny.

First, Ilya triumphed in parallel bars exercises. In the final, the Ukrainian scored 15.633 points – 0.767 more than his closest pursuer. This result was a record in Kovtun’s career, as well as the best at the European Championships in this discipline since 2016.

Ilya did not stop at this achievement and chose another gold award – in exercises on the horizontal bar. The result is 14.600 points – repeating Kovtun’s personal record.

The matter was not limited to the two highest awards for Ukraine. Nazar Chepurny failed to compete for medals on the parallel bars (6th place), but earlier he was able to win bronze in the vault. In this case, Igor Radivilov lost less than a point to his compatriot, remaining one step away from the pedestal.

The European Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rimini will end tomorrow, April 28. And from the second to the fifth of May – also in Italy – the continental championship in artistic gymnastics among women will take place.
