Dubrova: According to internal selection, Litvinenko will compete at the 2024 Olympics in the category up to 78 kilograms

Two Ukrainian judokas competed for one place at the Games in Paris

Head coach Ukrainian national judo team Vitaly Dubrova announced that Ukraine will be represented at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in the category up to 78 kilograms Elizaveta Litvinenko.

Two Ukrainians – Litvinenko and Yulia Kurchenko – applied for the only license for the team in this weight category. According to the team coach, this issue was closed ahead of schedule due to internal selection.

“The situation is closed. We had a team meeting. It has already been announced to the athletes that Elizaveta Litvinenko is going to the Olympics in this weight category. We have a selection system that we have signed, and this European Championship was the last competition after which we had to decide internally. This is not a global selection system, but an internal one, to remove this psychological burden from athletes, so that they can calmly prepare for the World Championships and the Olympic Games.”

“The main factor was her World Championship and Masters awards. Plus Lisa has a little more points in Olympic qualification. So the federation decided to close this internal selection. They are still going to the World Championships, but the athletes have already been told that Litvinenko will go to the Olympic Games. We are not bypassing this system, which was prescribed before the start of selection in 2022.”

Let us remind you that Litvinenko and Kurchenko will perform in the category up to 78 kilograms at the 2024 World Championships in Abu Dhabi (UAE). The competition will take place from May 19 to 24.

The bulk of licenses for the 2024 Games are distributed through the Olympic rankings, in which it is necessary to take a place in the top 17. Among the Ukrainians ranked at the Olympics are also Dilshot Khalmatov, Bogdan Yadov, Mikhail Svidrak and Daria Beloded.
