Skier Maltsev spoke about the knee pain he felt before the operation

Silver medalist at the World Ski Championships Artem Maltsev told that he decided to have knee surgery because he had already experienced pain during preparation and after races.

The skier announced on his Telegram channel on Friday that he had undergone knee surgery.

— I feel good, the operation went as planned. I already take steps using crutches.

—Why did you decide to have surgery now? As I understand it, this problem has been bothering me for several years.

– Yes, the problem bothered me. During summer training, I had painful and unpleasant sensations, so I could not handle the load that was placed on my legs. I reduced the load a little, but in winter, in races, you run in euphoria, so everything that hurt before the race did not hurt during it (laughs).

– And then?

— Afterwards, I sometimes had pain in my leg when I lay down.

—How long will it take you to recover? Will you go to the first training camp on May 15 in Kislovodsk?

— Tomorrow we will start doing exercises with a rehabilitation specialist. I hope in two weeks I will be able to do some walks and then some light cross country running. Plans include a trip to the first training camp. It’s possible that I won’t do the whole load there, so I’ll pump up my arms and upper shoulder girdle,” Maltsev told .

Maltsev is 30 years old. At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, he finished fourth in the 50-kilometer mass start. The athlete is the silver medalist of the 2021 World Relay Championships.
