Iga managed to win the tiebreaker, saving three match points
Polish tennis player Iga Šwiętek won a hard victory over a “neutral” opponent Arina Sabalenko in the final of the tournament WTA 1000 V Madrid.
The confrontation between the first and second rackets of the world ranking was a success. Each set was fought to the last, and the duel took a total of three hours and 14 minutes.
In the first game, Iga made a decisive break in the 11th game. Sabalenka took revenge, taking her opponent’s serve in the second set with a score of 5:4.
In the decisive set, Iga lost with a score of 1:3, and at 5:6 she saved two match points on her serve. The seesaw continued in the tiebreaker: Szwiatek missed a match point at 6:5, her opponent missed a match point at 7:6. And yet the Polish athlete won – 9:7.
For Szwiatek, this victory was the eighth in a row and the 19th overall in singles tournaments, as well as the ninth in her career at the WTA 1000 level.
