Two-time European weightlifting champion Peleshenko died in the war with Russia

Two-time European weightlifting champion died in the war with Russia Alexander Peleshenko.

It is known that the athlete has been in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2022. The details of the soldier’s death have not been reported.

Peleshenko became the European champion in 2016 and 2017. In 2015 he finished fourth at the World Championships, as he did at the Rio Olympics a year later.

In April, it became known about the death of former handball player Sergei Chuprina and international master of sports, shooting coach Valentin Dondikov. In March, Master of Sports of Ukraine in rowing, multiple champion of Ukraine and bronze medalist of the European Championship, Dmitry Gubanov, died.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 803rd day.
