The father of the “Gypsy King” was in his son’s corner during the fight with Usik
Former world super middleweight champion Carl Froch expressed the opinion that Tyson Fury’s defeat from Alexander Usik in the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion was to blame John Fury – the father of a former WBC world champion.
Fury Sr. was in the corner of the “Gypsy King” during the fight with the Ukrainian. According to Froch, the tips given by John Fury were contrary to the opinion of the boxer’s coach Sugarhill Steward.
“Tyson’s coach, SugarHill, knows everything about this game. He tried to give him instructions. How can Tyson concentrate and follow these instructions if John Fury is constantly screaming in his ear through the ropes and saying all sorts of nonsense?
“It is impossible to listen to two people at the same time. This could be the reason for defeat in such a close battle. This interference could have cost Tyson Fury victory.”
On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.
It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The Chairman of the General Authority of Entertainment of Saudi Arabia, Turki Al al-Sheikh, stated that the rematch between Alexander and Tyson is scheduled for October 12-13 in Riyadh.
