One of the strongest Ukrainian track and field athletes is also scheduled to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris
Ukrainian athlete Marina Bekh-Romanchuk forced to miss the upcoming one European Athletics Championships 2024 due to injury. She herself announced this on social networks.
“There is a very difficult time behind me, and it is still going on… You know that I always fight to the end! But, unfortunately, I recently received an injury during training, which will not allow me to compete in the near future. This is pain that I can’t stand, and exertion will only make my condition worse!”
“This time the injury was stronger than me, and I had to give up the European Championship for the sake of rehabilitation. This is hard to go through, because I put not only my strength, but also my soul into this preparation for this special season, with the desire to bring many victories to our country. But sports can be very cruel sometimes, and luck turned against me.”
“It took me a long time to write this post because I hate self-pity, but I have to be honest with you and hope for your understanding and support. You can’t imagine how painful it is to admit this even to yourself, but this European Championship will take place without me.”
Marina is one of the strongest Ukrainian athletes, European champion in the triple jump and European silver medalist in the long jump. She has not competed since January, missing the 2024 World Indoor Championships with Achilles tendon inflammation and delaying the start of the Diamond League season.
It is still unknown whether the injury will allow the Ukrainian to compete at the Olympics in Paris. Let us remind you that in July 2023, Bekh-Romanchuk for the first time in her career fulfilled the Olympic standard (14.55 m) in the triple jump and received a license for the 2024 Games. In 2016 and 2021, Marina competed at the Olympics only in the long jump.
The 2024 European Athletics Championships will be held in Rome from June 7 to 12. In addition to Bekh-Romanchuk, runner Victoria Tkachuk and high jumper Andrei Protsenko will also miss the continental forum.
