Belyaev on his victory in 10 km swimming in the Chechen Republic: “The heat is incredible, but I won – and it doesn’t matter what the conditions are”

Medalist at the World Open Water Swimming Championships Kirill Belyaev said that in Rostov-on-Don, where the Russian championship is held, there is intense heat, but after the victory he does not even think about it.

Belyaev won the Russian championship at a distance of 10 km. A medalist at the World and European Championships, he had never won the individual distance at the Russian Championships before.

— Emotions took over. To be honest, I didn’t even expect this to happen. But the race was extremely difficult, the gap with Ruslan was big. Therefore, emotions arose, which I did not expect at all. But I am very happy, very happy.

Indeed, today everything worked in my favor. Number 12, 12 is Russia Day, everything is very symbolic, very cool, nice. Conditions in Rostov are excellent. The only problem, of course, is that the weather conditions are not encouraging. The heat is incredible, the hot water, it seems to me, even exceeds 28 degrees. But today I won, and I don’t care about the conditions at all. The main thing for me is that today I finally managed to win a personal gold medal at the Russian Championship. To be honest, I felt like I could do it. I knew through my work that I could win gold.

At one point, when the gap was big, I gave up, but I worked to the end and didn’t even see Ruslan. I just worked myself out of exhaustion for faster seconds, and it paid off, which I’m incredibly happy about. Thanks to my coach and mother Anna Anatolyevna Tulupova, the entire Rybinsk team, Oksana Nikolaevna Semenycheva, Tatyana Borisovna Ronzina. Thanks to the Moscow region which supports the Yaroslavl region,” Belyaev told .
