Three-time Olympic medalist and six-time world swimming champion Yulia Efimova reached the 100m breaststroke final at the Bahamas National Championships, a qualifying event for the 2024 Games.
Efimova, 32, clocked 1 minute 9.51 seconds in selection for the final. This is the best result among all participants.
“I’m experiencing a new adventure: during the selection process in the outdoor pool, I had to swim in an incredible tropical downpour with the deafening sound of thunder. The organizers even told us that we did not have to go to the starting line: we would be allowed to advance to the final anyway. But I went to the start and showed such a time. We were told that evening departures would be canceled or postponed if the rain didn’t stop and lightning started to flash. This will already be life-threatening. I am ready to start, but little depends on me,” Efimova told .
The A qualification standard for Olympic qualification in the 100m breaststroke is 1 minute 6.79 seconds.
