Kevin Chobot scored the winning goal
In the match of the third round of the group stage of the European Championship Hungarian team in stoppage time snatched victory over Scotland with the score 1:0.
The tournament position obliged both teams to play to win this meeting, because a draw result suited neither the Scots nor the Hungarians. In the first half, Willy Orban could have scored for the Hungarian national team, and after the break, Hungary claimed a penalty, but the main referee of the match ultimately decided not to award a penalty kick.
The match was overshadowed by the injury of Hungarian striker Barnabas Varga, who collided with the opposing goalkeeper midway through the second half and was forced to leave the field on a stretcher.
Because of this incident, 10 minutes were added to the main time of the match and at the end of the game, Hungary still snatched an important victory thanks to a goal from Kevin Czobot.
In a parallel match of Quartet A, Germany snatched a draw from Switzerland (1:1) and entered the Euro 2024 playoffs from first place. Hungary scored 3 points and took third position. Scotland has one point and last place.
