Athletistic / Olympic Games. Russian trampoline player Yana Lebedeva explained why the conflict began in the Russian team. This happened after the end of the selection for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France).
“In our sport, fans are unhappy with several things at once: I won a bronze medal at the World Cup in Baku, and Angela (Bladtseva. – Note Athletistic) won silver. Then, at the World Cup in Cottbus, I became a bronze medalist again and Angela did not even qualify for the final. To get a quota for participation in the Olympic Games, I had to at least reach the final in Cottbus, and since I won a medal, Russia now has an Olympic license. It is not our name and it is for the country!
Back in Cottbus, the news came out that the federation’s coaching council had decided to compete for a license between me and Angela at the World Cup stages in Switzerland and Portugal. We were preparing for these competitions, but in mid-June the IOC published the lists of athletes admitted to the Paris Games, where Angela’s name was. Then I received a response from the IOC, which said that by decision and without the right of appeal, I was not allowed to participate in the Olympic Games.
And then, naturally, people asked a question: how can two participants apply for a single license?
The media wrote that Angela was going to the Olympics, and the federation commented only on her, almost without mentioning me anywhere. I had to record a video message to people myself, in which I explain this whole situation. There were no comments from the federation about me.
On June 29, news emerged about which athletes will compete in the 2024 Olympic Games, which athletes were rejected by the IOC, which athletes themselves refused to participate in the Games, and which applications from athletes were received by the IOC. My name was not on any of these lists. Neither those who were rejected by the IOC, nor those whose applications were submitted.
“Once again, the federation has not commented on this. Of course, people will be unhappy with the silence of the federation representatives and the fact that no one has explained what exactly happened,” Lebedeva said according to Sport-Express.
The Summer Olympics will be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11. Athletes from Russia and Belarus will be able to compete exclusively in neutral individual status and subject to a number of conditions. These sanctions are related to the conduct of a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine and have nothing to do with sport.
