Ukraine Draws With Northern Ireland in First Round of UEFA Youth Euro 2024
Midfielder and captain Ukraine U-19 national team Maksym Melnichenko commented on the draw in the first round match of the European Youth Championship against the Northern Ireland team (0:0).
“Of course, we wanted to win, the first game. We lost two important points. But there are two more games ahead, and we will work to get out of the group.
Physically we were well prepared, had a good training camp and it gave a result. We controlled the game, had more possession of the ball, but unfortunately we did not score our chances.
It was very nice to hear our Ukrainian fans, we thank them for their support in such a match,” Melnichenko said.
In the second round of Group A, Mykhailenko’s team will meet Norway on July 18. Then the blue-yellows will play Italy on July 21.
Two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. In addition, since the continental championship will also serve as UEFA’s qualifier for the 2025 World Cup (U-20), the teams that finish third in their groups will play for the fifth European spot at the World Cup. The final match of the 2024 U-19 European Championship will be held on July 28.
