Guberniev: “Russian skaters had no chance to win gold in team tournament because of decision on Valieva”

Russian figure skaters had no chance of winning first place in the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games, given the disqualification of Kamila Valieva, the host and commentator said. Dmitry Guberniev .

On Thursday, CAS said it had rejected appeals by the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the Russian Figure Skating Federation (RFIKR) and Russian figure skaters against the International Skating Union’s (ISU) decision to redistribute medals from the team tournament at the Beijing Games following the disqualification of Kamila Valieva. In January, the ISU annulled Valieva’s results and moved the Russian team from first to third place.

— How did we imagine returning to first place in light of the decision regarding Kamila Valieva? Well done for the fight, but it was clear that no one would give us back first place.

“We would like to keep the bronze medal now, given that there is still an appeal from Canada. Therefore, we have no chance to win gold in the team tournament. Our team did well not to give up, we can only welcome these measures of the Russian Figure Skating Federation,” Guberniev told the correspondent.
