Ukrainian boxing champion not against competing in mixed martial arts
WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC World Heavyweight Champion Alexander Usik said that he wouldn’t mind performing in a fistfight league Conor McGregor.
“Listen, we’re working. I don’t know if I’ll fight bare-knuckle. Maybe. My team is working. It’s interesting. Why not? UFC? Why not? McGregor, let’s go. Hey, Grisha, I’m ready to fight,” Usyk said.
Earlier, a member of Usyk’s coaching staff, Sergey Lapin, said that Alexander was interested in performing in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships (BKFC) fist-fighting league, co-owned by former UFC champion in two weight categories Conor McGregor. The Irishman, in turn, said that he would be happy with such cooperation.
On the night of May 19, Usyk inflicted the first defeat of Tyson Fury’s professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision of the judges: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usyk and Fury have reached an agreement for a rematch. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024, in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight.
