The Ukrainian team snatched victory from Morocco and retained the chance to reach the playoffs of the 2024 Olympics
Attack Igor Krasnopir, member of the Ukrainian Olympic team commented on the victory over Morocco (2:1) in the second round of Group B Olympics 2024.
“Rubchinskiy passed the ball to Fedor, and he crossed. I ran up and rolled the ball into the empty net with one touch. I believed until the end that I would be able to score, find my moment, be in the right place somewhere. And that’s how it happened. I’m very happy.”
“A very difficult victory. So difficult that even emotions are lacking. It was especially difficult to play with the crazy support of the opponent from the stands. They put pressure on you, they boo you… Somewhere this factor was confusing, but we are professionals and must adapt to all circumstances.”
“We’re moving on, because this victory didn’t decide anything definitively. Now we’re thinking only about Argentina. We’ll prepare for it, analyze it, and go for the win. Let’s forget this result – and only move forward!” the forward said.
The Ukrainian team was winning after the first half, but after the break they conceded a goal from a penalty, which was compounded by the sending off of Vladimir Saluk. The blue-and-yellows managed to snatch victory in stoppage time – Krasnopir scored after a pass from Oleg Fedor.
Argentina beat Iraq 3-1 in the other group match, and all four teams in Group B now have three points.
In the final round of the group stage, Ukraine will play Argentina, while Morocco will face Iraq. Both matches will take place on Tuesday, July 30.
