Ukrainian fails to qualify for 2024 Olympics final in 50m freestyle
Ukrainian swimmer Vladislav Bukhov commented on his unsuccessful semi-final Olympic Games 2024 in 50m freestyle swimming.
“That’s what sport is like. Anything can happen, you can win, you can lose. Now I lost, and I need to work on my mistakes. I will try to make sure that doesn’t happen again. It’s a bit funny that I’m 11th in two Olympics.”
“Thought 21.76 seconds wouldn’t be enough for the final? You never know how it’s going to close. For me, it’s a bad result because my personal best is 21.38 seconds, and I need to swim to it, but I’m not swimming. I need to work on my mistakes.”
“The Olympic cycle is characterized by a lot of work. A lot of jumping from the start. For me, it is more successful than not. I improved my personal record at the World Championships in Doha. I always want to achieve more, but it does not always work out.”
Vladislav started in the second semi-final swim and took only seventh place among eight participants, showing a time of 21.76 seconds. This result is better than the one with which the Ukrainian finished the previous stage (21.89), but it was not enough to get into the top 8 of the overall standings.
In the final standings, Bukhov came in 11th, 0.13 seconds behind the qualifying eighth place. He was only 0.02 seconds short of receiving reserve status for the final competition.
Let us recall that at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Bukhov also failed to reach the final in the 50-meter freestyle, showing the 11th result in the semi-finals.
Ukraine won two medals at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris — Sergey Kulish won silver in the 50-meter air rifle shooting competition, and Olga Harlan won a bronze medal in sabre fencing.
The competition will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
