Dutch Representative Sharon Wang Ruwendaal won the 10km open water swimming event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The 30-year-old athlete posted a result of 2 hours 3 minutes 34.2 seconds. Australian Moishe Johnson took second place, while Italian Ginevra Taddeucci took bronze. Tokyo Olympic champion Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil took fourth place.
Van Ruwendaal became the only double Olympic champion in this distance. Previously, she had won gold at the Rio de Janeiro Games and at the Tokyo Olympics, the athlete became second. Women’s open water swimming has been on the Olympic programme since 2008; the first Olympic champion in this discipline was the Russian Larisa Ilchenko.
The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
