Russian, five-time Paralympic swimming champion Roman Zhdanov told that the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games gave him new sensations thanks to the full stands.
On Saturday, Zhdanov became first in the 50m backstroke (S4). Earlier, the 26-year-old athlete won gold and silver in Paris.
— Were these Games more difficult than Tokyo?
– Vice versa. At first I was discouraged by so many people in the stands, but then I got used to it and felt how great it was to see so many people applauding you. New sensations.
— Was it psychologically difficult to perform until the last day of the competition?
“It was tough, we’ve been here for a long time, but I gathered my last strength and gave it my all for the distance.” Not all distances are easy, you swim, rest for a day, then start again. Everything was going well. But this distance was one of the priorities of the last day, but everyone was on equal terms.
— Do you often visit the Altai Territory?
– I live there. I train in Zarya, everything is convenient there, everything is great.
– How do you think they will welcome you?
“They are preparing a surprise, we don’t know anything,” Zhdanova told .
The Paralympic Games in the French capital will end on September 8.
