Alleged killer of Ugandan runner Rebecca Cheptegei Dixon Ndiema Marangach died in hospital from burns.
The information was provided by Philip Kirwa, chief executive officer of the Eldoret Teaching and Referral Hospital in western Kenya, where Marangach was treated and where Cheptegei also died.
Kirwa said Marangach suffered burns over 41% after attacking Cheptegei, which local media reported happened after she returned home from church with her children. The alleged killer died after developing respiratory failure as a result of severe burns to his airways and sepsis.

Let us recall that 33-year-old Cheptegei died on September 5, and the cause of death was multiple burns to her body, which she received at home during a quarrel with her lover.
During the conflict, the boyfriend reportedly doused Cheptegei with gasoline and set her on fire. The athlete was hospitalized and remained in critical condition for several days, but still lost her fight for life.
Cheptegei finished 44th in the 2024 Olympic marathon. She placed 14th at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest and won silver at the Florence Marathon.
