Let us recall that 33-year-old Cheptegei died on September 5, and the cause of death was multiple burns to her body, which she received at home during a quarrel with her lover.

During the conflict, the boyfriend reportedly doused Cheptegei with gasoline and set her on fire. The athlete was hospitalized and remained in critical condition for several days, but still lost her fight for life.

Cheptegei finished 44th in the 2024 Olympic marathon. She placed 14th at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest and won silver at the Florence Marathon.
