During the ceremony, Cruise, in the style of a character from the Mission: Impossible film series, rappelled from the roof of the Stade de France. He took the flag and left the stadium on a motorbike. It was claimed that the 62-year-old actor spent a year and a half preparing to perform the stunt.

“We knew we were doing a 15-minute live show, so we hired who I think is the best person in the world for the job. When we did the Zoom presentation, the original idea was to have a person in the stadium with a hood as a stunt double. After five minutes, Cruise said he was up for it, but only if he did it himself,” Wasserman said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

According to Wasserman, everyone on the show, including Cruise, worked for free.
