Men’s national team of Ukraine achieved a sensational victory over USAthe world leader, on World Chess Olympiad 2024 — 2.5:1.5.
The only victory for the world’s strongest team was brought by Fabiano Caruano, who beat Andrey Volokitin (1:0). The Ukrainian team responded to this with successful performances Vasily Ivanchuk And Anton Korobovwho were stronger than Wesley So and Ray Robson, respectively. Another fight, between Ruslan Ponomarev and Leinier Dominguez Perez, ended in a draw (0.5:0.5).
This triumph was the fourth in a row for Ukraine at the tournament in Budapest. Earlier, our compatriots beat the teams of Tunisia (4:0), Uruguay (3.5:0.5) and Australia (2.5:1.5).
The Ukrainian women’s team is also performing quite successfully at the Olympics. In the first three rounds, they managed to beat their opponents from Kyrgyzstan (3.5:0.5), Lithuania (2.5:1.5) and Israel (3:1), after which they shared points with Turkey (2:2). The Ukrainian women’s team is participating in the competition without the Muzychuk sisters, Anna and Maria.
The tournament is taking place in Budapest, Hungary from September 10 to 23. At the previous event in 2022, the men’s team won the tournament, while Ukraine, consisting of the Muzychuk sisters, as well as Anna Ushenina, Natalia Buksa and Yulia Osmak, triumphed in the women’s tournament.
