Fonseca’s first win at Rossoneri
Milan won by a large margin on his home field Venice in the match of the 4th round Serie A — 4:0.
The Rossoneri fully rehabilitated themselves in front of their home crowd for the failures of the previous rounds. The final score was already set in the first half hour. In the second minute, Theo Hernandez burst into the penalty area, received a backheel pass from Rafael Leao, and upset Jesse Joronen with a shot into the “house”.
Paulo Fonseca’s team doubled the score after a set piece and a cross from Christian Pulisic. The goal was initially attributed to Matteo Gabbia, but was later credited to summer newcomer Youssouf Fofana.
Soon two penalties were awarded in a row against Venezia – Tammy Abraham and Raphael Leao earned fouls. Pulisic and Abraham shot accurately from 11 meters – the Englishman, like Fofana, scored for the first time for his new club.
The rest of the game turned into a formality. In the middle of the second half, Venezia broke the deadlock, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul by Hans Nicolussi at the start of the attack – for which the offender received a second yellow card.
Fonseca managed to win only at the fourth attempt as head coach of the Rossoneri. His team collected five points and began to climb out of the basement of the tournament table. Venezia remains at the very bottom with one point.
Milan face a tough week ahead, first hosting Liverpool in the Champions League (September 17), then the derby against Inter (22nd).
