Canelo defeats Berlanga via unanimous decision

Berlanga suffered his first defeat in his professional career

WBC, WBO, WBA World Champion in the super middleweight division Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KO) in Las Vegas he won over Edgar Berlanga (22-1, 17 KO) by unanimous decision (118:109, 118:109, 117:110)

In the third round, Berlanga was knocked down, but managed to get up and continue the fight. The fight eventually lasted the entire distance, but the Puerto Rican could not avoid his first defeat in the professional ring.

This victory was the fifth in a row for Canelo – his last defeat was in May 2022 in a fight against Dmitry Bivol.

Let us recall that in May 2024, Canelo, being the absolute world champion in the super middleweight division, defeated Jaime Munguia by unanimous decision. After that, the IBF obliged the Mexican to hold his next fight against the German William Scull, who has been the mandatory challenger according to this organization for almost a long time.

Canelo turned down the fight and chose to fight Berlanga, which resulted in him losing his IBF title.
