President Volleyball Federation of Ukraine Mykhailo Melnyk spoke about the fact that a number of players who refused to play for Ukrainian men’s team in 2024, ready to return to the national team.
“It seems like everyone expressed their readiness to play. I know that the “refuseniks” called Raul Lozano, and some called me that they were ready. If Lozano thinks that they should play, then they are ready. I know that everyone except Plotnitsky [звонили]but maybe he talked at the last moment [с Лосано]“And the rest expressed a desire,” the functionary noted.
Let us recall that in early May, before the start of the national team in the Golden Euroleague, several players did not show up for the national team training camp. In particular, its leader Oleg Plotnitsky refused to be called up to the national team. In addition to him, the following did not show up: diagonal Vasyl Tupchy, as well as four representatives of the Ukrainian champion Prometey – Yan Yereshchenko, Dmytro Teremenko, Gorden Brova and Vitaliy Shchitkov.
Then, Melnik, hot on the heels of the incident, called the volleyball players who refused to come to the national team under the newly appointed coach Raul Lozano “traitors.”
The Ukrainian men’s national team recently learned its opponents for the group stage of the 2025 World Cup, which will be held in the Philippines in September next year. The blue-and-yellows will play in Group F with Italy (the current world champions), Belgium and Algeria.
