Liverpool kick off Champions League campaign with comeback win away to Milan

The Rossoneri opened the scoring very quickly, but it didn’t help them

Milan on his own field he gave in on the matter Liverpool in the match of the 1st round of the general stage Champions League — 1:3.

Paulo Fonseca’s team managed to shock their opponents with an active start and an early goal. Christian Pulisic received the ball from Morata, raced down the right flank, entered the penalty area and shot accurately into the far corner.

Liverpool immediately pressed their opponents into their penalty area and began to create chances. The goals were not long in coming. Arne Sloth’s team created a lot from play (Mohamed Salah hit the crossbar twice), but took the lead thanks to two corners. Two full-backs – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kostas Tsimikas – served, and two central defenders – Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk – closed from the goal area.

The one-way traffic continued in the second half. The situation was aggravated for Milan by an injury to the main goalkeeper – instead of Mike Maignan they had to release Lorenzo Torriani, who made his debut in adult football (he played reliably, without complaints). In the middle of the half, captain Davide Calabria also broke down – by that time the score was already 1:3.

Livurpoel calmed the intrigue with a counterattack, which resulted in Cody Gakpo providing an assist for Dominik Szoboszlai.

Milan tried to get back into the game, but never really created any scoring chances (except for Rafael Leao’s shot on the post in the dying seconds). The visitors outshot the hosts more than three to one, and the shots on target score was 9:1 in favor of the Reds.

In the second round, in early October, Liverpool will host Bologna, and the Rossoneri will play away against Bayer.
