Al Ain thrash Auckland City to reach Intercontinental Cup quarterfinals

In the next round, the UAE club will play against Egypt’s Al-Ahly

Al Ain defeated Auckland in the 1/8 final match Intercontinental Cup 2024 — 6:2.

The Asian team shocked their opponents by scoring two goals in the first 11 minutes. Auckland pulled one back late in the first half, but a few minutes later Matias Palacios gave Al Ain another two-goal lead.

After the break, New Zealand again reduced the deficit, Myer Bevan scoring. However, Sufyan Rahimi scored the fourth goal for Al Ain midway through the second half. In stoppage time, the UAE club scored twice more, with Rahimi scoring twice.

Al Ain have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Intercontinental Cup, where they will face Al Ahly. The Egyptian team will host the winner of the Asian Champions League on October 29.

The decisive matches will take place in December. The winner of the Copa Libertadores, which will be determined on November 30, will play Pachuca in the second quarterfinal. The best team in this confrontation will meet the winner of the Al-Ahli – Al-Ain match in the semifinals. The finalist will play Real Madrid on December 18.
