The Ukrainian lost in the opening game, but was able to win the final strong-willed victory
Ukrainian tennis player Yulia Starodubtseva beat Laura Siegemund in the qualifying semi-finals WTA 1000 V Wuhan (China).
The match lasted 2 hours and 32 minutes. The opening set brought a lot of struggle – both opponents held their serve, but a single break from Siegemund brought her victory with a score of 6:4.
In the second game, Starodubtseva played the move more confidently. She was able to take three games on her opponent’s serve and level the score in sets.
In the final game, Yulia’s advantage was obvious. Siegemund often made mistakes on her serve, which the Ukrainian skillfully took advantage of, again scoring three breaks. As a result, a 6:3 victory in the decisive set and access to the qualifying final, where Anna Bondar from Hungary will become Starodubtseva’s opponent.
Another Ukrainian tennis player, Lesya Tsurenko, reached the final qualifying round of the tournament in Wuhan, having beaten Linda Frugvirtova from the Czech Republic in two sets today.
Let us remind you that Yulia Starodubtseva completed her performance at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing this week. There she reached the quarter finals, losing to world number six Coco Gauff. Thanks to her performance in Beijing, the Ukrainian guaranteed herself a debut in the top hundred of the rankings.
