Kenyan runner Kipyegon Bette died at the age of 26, reports Nation Africa, citing the athlete’s sister Puriti Kirui.

According to preliminary data, Bett’s liver and other organs may have been damaged. He was treated as an outpatient at the hospital, but was admitted to the hospital on Saturday due to his worsening condition. Bett died on Sunday.

Bett is the 2016 junior world champion and bronze medalist at the 2017 World Championships in the 800m. In 2018, he was banned for four years for erythropoietin.
