This move was made as part of UEFA’s strategy for the development of European women’s football and the UAF’s women’s football development plan
Debutant Ukrainian Premier League Left Bank officially announced the start of cooperation with the women’s football club Leaderrepresenting the city of Kobelyaki, Poltava region.
It is reported that the signing of the partnership agreement took place as part of the UEFA strategy for the development of European women’s football and the corresponding development plan for women’s football from the UAF. Director of the Kyiv club Oleg Egorov noted:
“Left Bank has long been not only a football club, but also an association of people with common interests and values. Therefore, we are ready to fully and fully support the ambitious women’s club from the Poltava region. I hope this will be an interesting interaction for the Left Bank, the Leader, and, of course, our fans. Poltava won the first championship of the First League during a full-scale war. And I am sure that our aspirations for victory and the desire to work for sports results coincide.”
JFK Leader was founded in 2002 and for a long time functioned as a purely futsal club. The football team was formed in 2022 – and immediately, in the first season at the professional level, won the First League 2022/23. However, the club was forced to refuse participation in the Major League for a number of reasons.
In the 2023/24 season, the Leader took fourth place in Group B. This season, the team from the Poltava region, having lost three matches out of four, ranks only seventh in its subgroup of the second-class division of women’s football in Ukraine.
Left Bank, in turn, made its professional debut only in 2021. Due to the full-scale Russian invasion, the 2021/22 season was not completed. The Kiev club then took second place in Group A, two points behind Karpaty.
Left Bank temporarily suspended its performances, but in the 2023/24 season it returned to professional football, becoming a member of the First League. At the end of last season, the Kiev team took third place in the championship group and lost to Obolon (0:1, 1:1) in the play-offs for promotion to the UPL.
The team received a new chance after the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Football Association decided to hold a mini-tournament between four teams for the vacant place in the UPL, which became vacant after the withdrawal of Dnepr-1. In the semi-finals, Left Bank beat Kharkov Metalist 1925 on penalties, and in the decisive match they defeated Minai (3:0) and qualified for the UPL for the first time in history.
In nine rounds, Vitaly Pervak’s team scored 7 points and is in 14th place (zone of transition matches). In the next round, Left Bank will play away against Polesie on October 19.
