The second series of the confrontation between Veres and Obolon will take place in Kyiv next Sunday – now within the framework of the UPL
Acting head coach Veresa Oleg Shandruk – about a difficult victory over Obolon (2:1) in the 1/8 finals Ukrainian Cup.
“Now we are all emotionally exhausted, but happy. We made it to the quarterfinals. Our team had a day less time for preparation and rest. This was a definite problem that we solved. Because they lasted 120 minutes. It’s good that the game started in the evening – we had an extra few hours to rest.”
“It’s good that the next game is on Monday. I think we will be able to recover functionally. I’m more worried about my emotional state. Because when you give away too much emotion, the number of days between games is no longer so important. Therefore, it is important for us to recover emotionally. The next game with Obolon will definitely not be easier.”
“Is Veres capable of reaching the semi-finals? Much will depend on the results of the draw. But our team has character. The next cup game will take place in the spring. I believe that we will become even stronger. And this is the Cup. There may be surprises here. That’s why I believe in our team.”
“Who would you like to play with in the quarterfinals? On the one hand, we always strive to play with the strongest opponents. On the other hand, we understand that the level of Shakhtar and Dynamo is much higher. I will answer diplomatically: I would like to play with an opponent whom we will beat.”
“Regarding the form of Ruslan Stepanyuk. We communicate with him a lot. He is a mature player, but he also feels the weight of responsibility. Today’s goal should give him some inspiration. He is dependent on goals, on assists. This ball should help him become even better. He’s already doing a tremendous job off the field. He plays a huge role in shaping our team mentality. For this we are very grateful to him.”
Let us remind you that Veres won a strong-willed victory over Obolon on his home field. The visitors opened the scoring early in the second half, but Stepaniuk quickly equalized. The Kiev team played in the minority with 65, but were able to hold out until overtime. Already there, Shandruk’s team scored the winning goal – Luan Campos scored with a spectacular falling shot.
Veres and Obolon will play each other in the next meeting, this time in the Ukrainian Championship. The game of the 12th round of the UPL will be held in Kyiv on November 4.
