Figure skating coach Alexandre Jouline told that Kamila Valieva may not resume his career if Russian athletes are not returned to international tournaments.
On Friday, Valieva said she intends to continue her career after her suspension expires. At the end of January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended the skater for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The 18-year-old Russian’s suspension period begins on December 25, 2021, and her results have been canceled since that date.
Currently, Russian figure skaters are suspended from participation in competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) due to the situation in Ukraine.
— Will Valieva be able to return to her previous level and get back into shape?
– Camila can do it, but she needs motivation. At a minimum – international departures. If they don’t exist, then I seriously doubt (his return).
— In other words, if she doesn’t get in shape during international competitions, she is unlikely to participate in the next Olympics?
“She will start getting in shape if she learns that international competitions will appear, and if not, she is unlikely to return. This is purely my opinion,” Zhulin told .
Due to the disqualification, Valieva was deprived of gold at the 2022 European Championship and the Russian team was deprived of gold at the team tournament of the 2022 Olympic Games. The International Skating Union redistributed the medals in the team competitions at the Beijing Olympics: the American team moved to first place, the Japanese took second, and the Russian team won the bronze medal.
