The court has decided to re-examine the case of the son of the former IAAF boss, convicted of corruption.

The French Court of Cassation has ruled that the case of the son of the former president of the International Federation of Athletic Associations (IAAF, now World Athletics) Papa Massata Diack must be re-examined, reports AFP.

Diack, whose father Lamine Diack led the IAAF from 1999 to 2015, was convicted in 2020 of accepting bribes in exchange for covering up doping tests on Russian athletes. Papa Massata Diack was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of one million euros, which was later reduced by half.

The Court of Cassation decided that the case would be re-examined by the Paris Court of Appeal. Diack remains in Senegal, which refuses to extradite the 58-year-old former civil servant.

World Athletics, now headed by Briton Sebastian Coe, had previously claimed 41.2 million euros in damages.
