Bogachuk about Lomachenko: I don’t understand his political position. What kind of friendly relations can we talk about if your country is being bombed?

Vasily was repeatedly seen in tacit and active support of the Russian Federation

Former interim WBC super middleweight world champion, Ukrainian Sergei Bogachuk commented on the situation with the statements of the Ukrainian IBF and IBO lightweight world champion Vasily Lomachenko regarding the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

“I never talked to him, so I don’t know him. I hear a lot of talk about his position on the war and all that.”

“Honestly, I don’t understand his position, because there is a war in your country. As I understand it, he speaks out so ambiguously because he has many friends and acquaintances in Russia, but this is not very correct. I also have many acquaintances and friends from Russia, but when such a situation happened to you, your country is being bombed, your people are being killed, what kind of friendly relations can there be?”

“You have to think realistically that these are inadequate things, when on the one hand, where your friends were, they come to kill us, well, this is absolutely abnormal.”

Lomachenko has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to the UOC-MP on social networks. Serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and public figure Yevgeny Karas, as well as the chief of staff of the Azov regiment Bogdan Krotevich announced the “recruitment” of Lomachenko. Ukrainian boxer Ivan Redkach spoke in support of Vasily.

The boxer has repeatedly published a video interview with Metropolitan Longin of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate on social networks. During his monologues, Longin says that “Ukraine started a war against God, the Church of the Lord and the Ukrainian people.”

In 2023, Lomachenko published a video interview with Metropolitan Luke of Zaporozhye and Melitopol for the Russian BBC service, who stated that Ukrainians deserved to be bombed by the Russian army.

Lomachenko previously refused to call Russia an aggressor. After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, the boxer joined the ranks of the territorial defense of Belgorod-Dnestrovsky, and Alina Shaternikova stated that Vasily was a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
