Virgil admits the Ukrainian made Jaron “sweat”
WBO International belt holder and interim WBC light middleweight champion Virgil Ortiz (22-0, 21 KOs) shared his thoughts on the IBF welterweight champion fight Jaron Ennis (33-0, 29 KO) and Ukrainian boxer Karen Chukhadzhyan (24-3, 13 KOs).
“To be honest, Ennis didn’t look that great. Maybe the problem is the opponent because Jaron had two bad performances with this guy.”
“He promised to knock out Chukhadzhyan and didn’t do it. I’m not saying Ennis should have, but to be honest, he missed a lot of shots in that fight. Jaron didn’t look too good and seemed a little upset about it. I wasn’t in the ring with his opponent, so I can’t say what it was.”
Chukhajyan lost to Ennis in his last fight. The fight eventually lasted the entire intended distance of 12 rounds, and to determine the winner it was necessary to resort to the judges’ notes. All three referees unanimously gave the victory to Ennis: 119:107, 117:109, 116:110.
Let us remember that Chukhadzhyan had previously met with Ennis. The previous fight also took place in the USA in January 2023. The American confidently won on points, all judges gave each round to Jaron (three times 120:108).
Chukhadzhyan’s liabilities now include three defeats in his professional career. Ennis, 27, remains undefeated in his third successful IBF title defense.
The potential next opponent of the Ukrainian boxer could be another American, Blair Cobbs.
