“I wanted to prove myself in open water better than at other starts” – Kurtseva on victories in the Czech Republic

Russian swimming champion Yana Kurtseva told that she has improved her competitive condition for the national open water championship and wants to prove herself at this start better than in previous ones.

Prior to the Russian Open Water Swimming Championship, Kurtseva performed at the Friendship Games and the Spartakiad. In marathon swimming, she won two gold medals – at distances of 5 and 10 km.

– Is it difficult to swim in open water after the Friendship Games, the Spartakiads? Or, on the contrary, do we have the feeling that it helped to win competitive conditions?

– There is certainly a feeling that I “cheated” for this Russian championship, because before that I had not managed all the starts of the season. Somewhere I fell because of illness, somewhere because of my emotions. I really wanted to perform better in these competitions than in others,” Kurtseva told .

– How was the water, how was the weather on the “top ten”? There was a strong wind.

— I love this kind of weather and difficulty, but the wind was getting stronger towards the finish line with each lap, the last lap was the strongest wind. The home stretch was usually something with something. I thought it would never end.
