The International Swimming Federation (FINA) intends to change the rules for using wetsuits in open water, according to the FINA press service.
The FINA Technical Committee for this sport confirms the mandatory use of wetsuits when the water temperature in the water area is below 18 degrees.
At the same time, it is proposed to remove the wording “at a water temperature of 20 degrees and below, the use of wetsuits is allowed” from the rules.
The corresponding rule change will be voted on by the FINA Technical Congress at the Technical Congress, which will be held by videoconference from October 3 to 5.
The suit completely covers the athlete’s torso, back, shoulders and knees and provides thermal insulation.
