“Without the participation of Russians in tournaments, less money comes from advertisers, everyone has long learned to count money” – Rodnina

Three-time Olympic figure skating champion Irina Rodnina believes that many international federations are aware of the loss of interest in tournaments and the decline in advertising revenue without the participation of Russian athletes.

In February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from competing due to the situation in Ukraine. Many international federations have followed the recommendations.

– It’s one thing to end up in Russia or the USA, and another – in states that have no weight in the world of figure skating, no tradition, no history. Well, you can check the box. These skaters then write about themselves I am an Olympian, implying that they have been to the Olympics. But it was all about participation, not winning a medal.

Any suspension is temporary. In many federations – especially in sports dominated by Russians – they understand that without them interest in tournaments decreases, less money comes from advertisers. Believe me, everyone has long learned to count money, ”quotes RT Rodnina.
